Damen Oranjewerf
12 years
During the tour at Damen Oranjewerf you will stand face to face with the ships that are currently in the dock for repair. You will hear the story of one of the oldest crafts in the world and what it takes to repair modern ships in 2022.
Damen Shiprepair Oranjewerf is located on the north side of the IJ River in Amsterdam. The yard has a floating dry dock with a capacity of 6,000 tons. On site is a 100-meter transverse slipway that is among the larger in the Netherlands.
The yard focuses primarily on repairs, conversion and regular maintenance of ships and floating equipment for both marine and inland shipping. Damen also performs construction work and machining on site. The company's clients include shipping companies, inland navigation operators, dredging and contracting companies, government, stevedoring companies and industries.
Free tour
Only during Zeehavendagen Amsterdam does Damen Oranjewerf open the company to the general public. Small groups of visitors, led by management, tour the entire shipyard, including the docks where ships lie for repairs. The tour lasts an average of one hour.
