If you want to visit one of Amsterdam's most high-profile and eye-catching port companies, then head to Damen Shiprepair Amsterdam in Noord. Upon arrival, you'll take a wave train across the impressive grounds past a hedge of ships under maintenance. Along the way, you will feel the tremendous dynamism of the company.

In the port of Amsterdam, Damen has four dry docks, several deep-water quays and 750 meters of berths for performing all kinds of maintenance work. Opposite these landing spots is the machine shops of Niron Staal and Brasspenning, where various parts are made.

Guided tour by train
The free tours at Damen Shiprepair last about half an hour and depart regularly from the Helling 7 restaurant located at the shipyard. Meeting point is at Lagerwal next to Helling 7. It is not possible to reserve a spot in advance, so you may have to wait a while before the tour starts. At Lagerwal you can buy a drink or have a nice lunch and wait until there is room on the train.

'Must see'
Because people are just working, along the way you'll see what's being made in the factories and what's happening on the dock. Since the driver is employed by Damen, he or she will explain exactly what you see. You can also go to him or her with all your questions. The tour right through the production process makes the tour a unique attraction and an absolute "must see" during Seaport Days.
