No sooner did Cargill in Zaanstad open the doors to the public at all of its cocoa factories. This is your chance to see up close what the company makes from the many tons of cocoa beans processed each year
Cargill cocoa and chocolate makes the products cocoa mass, cocoa butter and cocoa powder from cocoa beans in Zaandam and Wormer. Cocoa mass is made in Zaandam and in Wormer machines press cocoa butter from the mass. That product in turn is used as a raw material in chocolate and cosmetic products, such as lip cream. During pressing, solid cocoa solids always remain. That is the cocoa cake from which cocoa powder is made in the factory. Cocoa powder is a raw material more commonly seen in dairy and bakery products.
Small groups
During Seaport Days Zaanstad, Cargill employees explain the production process at the plant. You will literally get a look behind the scenes. All tours take place in small groups, so there is plenty of room for questions about the production process. The tour lasts an average of one hour and is free of charge.
