Maritime walking tour of the Eastern Islands

June 20 & June 21, 2026
Amsterdam

€ Paid

Part of the rich shipping history has its roots in Amsterdam East. Guide Adri Doorneveld guides you along the pearls of this history during Seaport Days. Two fascinating maritime walks starting at Museum 't Kromhout.

Adri explores with the groups the history of the Kromhout shipyard, unravels why the Marineterrein was always closed and shows what line tracks are. We look for the origin of the names Kattenburg and Wittenburg, and discover who was the architect of 's Lands Zeemagazijn. Together you'll investigate whether the Marker house on Wittenburg is related to the former island of Marken, and you'll dive into the history of Oostenburg and the Nederlandsche Scheepsbouw Maatschappij.

Street Names
Along the way we study the rise of steamships and the Vemen on the Nieuwe Vaart. What does the Entrepot dock mean and why are there no warehouses with place names beginning with A? What street names recall old shipping occupations? And much more.
