As part of Zaanstad's 50th anniversary, Zeehavendagen Zaanstad is deploying the beautiful River Dream so that as many residents as possible can enjoy this specially developed tour of the Zaan. Central to the tour is the history of the manufacturing industry along this international trade route that produced such renowned companies as Verkade, Lassie, Albert Heijn, Duyvis-Wiener and Gerkens (now Cargill).

From the Westzijde near the old Verkadefabriek, the River Dream sets sail in the direction of Zaanse Schans. En route, occasional guide Ad van Vugt explains why Zaanse manufacturing companies nestled along the Zaan and grew into the global players in the food industry that they are today.

Zaanse Schans
No detail in that fascinating story remains unsaid. So not even how hundreds of years ago the Zaan industry made its entrance with only one windmill along the Zaan, what the significance of the windmills along the Zaanse Schans is and how things stand in the manufacturing industry today.

Panoramic roof
Turning point of the two-hour cruise is the bridge over the Zaan in Wormer. The River Dream is a modern tour boat where you can enjoy the panoramic view both inside and outside on the roof of the large cabin. While enjoying a spacious catering offer.
