VCK's Ron Lahman receives Amsterdam port medal
This year Amports awarded VCK director Ron Lahman the Amsterdam port medal. This was traditionally done during the Port Guild Dinner in Hotel Okura, and the jewel was pinned on him by port alderman Hester van Buren (PvdA) in the presence of 500 guests.
Ron Lahman (62) received the recognition for his efforts over 25 years for the Port of Amsterdam. Efforts he prefers to make in the background. As top man at VCK, but also as chairman of the SIVN, a fund that donates amounts to initiatives and organizations that make a valuable contribution to the promotion of and advocacy for the port.
Righteous. Courageous and leader
In keeping with Ron Marcel Lahman's initials, Amports calls this year's winner "Righteous. Courageous and leader. What makes him truly special, the judges' report said, is his impressive list of accomplishments and his integrity, analytical ability and ability to lead with humor and fairness. Making courageous decisions and inspiring others to do the same.
Do not erode
Lahman, born on the Haarlemmerdijk in Amsterdam, seized the opportunity of his thanks to warn the gathering at Hotel Okura against further erosion of seaport functions in the North Sea Canal area. Partly as a result of Amsterdam's housing plans and the phasing out of coal transhipment. 'Less tonnage does not equal less space,' said the VCK director.
